Artist and journalist, Carmen Sisson https://www.facebook.com/CarmenSisson created this brave vision of emergence, a testimony to all the creative souls within us. Thank you Carmen! "I rarely leave the house anymore, but I was enticed out by an intriguing invitation to a meeting of Dauphin Island artists. I hesitated. Sure, I spend hours mucking around with my non-work photos, but is it art? I struggle enough with calling myself a journalist. I'm a writer, but I rarely write. I grew up in Theodore but I spent the best parts of my childhood in the bayou. I came home, but I don't know anyone and all my friends live on the Internet. I don't seem to belong here, but the Gulf calls me whenever I'm away. Maybe the soul always drifts back to the waters in which it was spawned. Maybe the inner stardust only realigns beneath the skies where it was scattered. I am not a social creature. I am at home on a windswept, lonely beach. I go so many days without speaking that my voice disappears completely. But it turned out to be the best day I've had in a while. People were nice to me. It looks to be an exciting venture. And it didn't seem to matter so much what label I should wear. Toss them all in a box and pick one. I am a dozen things and nothing and a half dozen things that haven't been named and can't be described. The tides rise and fall just the same. Beneath a chalk white, winter sky, everything is in monochromatic harmony. It makes it easier to see color. It makes it easier to see movement and form. Solitude is good but creativity needs air to make it burn hotter, brighter. Creation needs a crucible to help it take shape. And on the coldest of nights, even lone wolves need the pack to sing them home." ... See more
